It's All About Light
In black and white photography, where the element of color cannot be used as a tool, it is especially important that you begin to recognize the transformational relationship of light and subject.
Lighting can be descriptive, at the very least, but often goes beyond. It can lend a sense of drama, serenity, glamour or intensity to otherwise ordinary circumstances or everyday objects. In shooting for this portfolio, your quest will be to identify and record examples of this. They may be situations that present themselves to you, or compositions that you have consciously choreographed or set up. Within this portfolio of images, you are to show examples of the transformational quality of light in the case of:
Your final portfolio must consist of 6 prints, two from each of the three categories. SHOOT A LOT! Remember, it's not what you shoot, but how you shoot it. You are attempting to illustrate how effective lighting can 'make' a photograph. Shoot multiple frames of each subject or idea to give yourself options in the darkroom |
