Project Description
Picture this: An illuminated pastry display case full of assorted donuts. You briefly ponder how and why such a case is in the hallway at Cape Elizabeth High School. You move in closer to inspect the assortment and are just about to pick out which one you are in the mood for eating, when you realize there is something unexpected about these donuts...something just a little bit off....that's right, they are made of clay and are dripping in glossy glazes that look good enough to eat.
Inspired by this vision, and simply a love of donuts, we will be working as a class to create our own display of ceramic donuts. Each student is expected to contribute a minimum of 2 donuts to this group installation.
The technical challenge of crafting your donut will involve constructing the basic form (these will be hollow forms made from two combined pinch pots), constructing textural elements, and controlling color choices and application.
In addition to being part of the group installation, individual donuts will receive recognition for being particularly well crafted sculptures. For example, we will recognize donuts worthy of "Most Delicious", & "Most Believable" (among other) awards.

Flavor Gallery
Peruse these images to get ideas for the type of donuts you would like to create. Consider the topping, colors, and textures that will be needed for your selected flavor. We will also need to ensure, as a class, that we have a 'healthy' assortment, so there will be a group sign-up to avoid too many duplicate flavors.
